Southwest Victoria is hardly over-run with microbreweries, but the small number that do exist offer some excellent boutique beer products. Not only traditional old-fashioned ales (also known as bitters), there is a premium lager to be found too ;
- Coggs Brewing (in Geelong) is run by keen surfer Nick Coggs, in participation with Geelong Cats AFL star Gary Ablett. Strong, clean, preservative free, the Coggs Premium Lager is very refreshing and available from a number of outlets in Geelong, the Bellarine and the Surf Coast. Now it is available nationwide from A Taste of the Region! Try with Mustard & Herb Lamb Rack with onion marmalade, mashed potato & ratatouille
- Red Duck Beer (in Camperdown) is not your standard brewery. Managed and run as Purrumbete Brewing by true enthusiasts of the brewing arts, their range of traditional beers have been developed to a fine level - deep malt-driven flavours, rich colours, no added preservatives. Red Duck Beers offer a porter, a pale ale, an amber ale and a burton.
- Otway Estate (in Barongarook) have long been involved with wine, and in recent years extended their skills to the brewing of beer. The result is a growing range of boutique beers winning acclaim and awards, such as the farmhouse ale and red ale. All beers are naturally fermented and contain no preservatives, the water used for brewing is pure Otway rainwater.
