If you enjoy real ales you know that the best brews are not always easy to find, but well worth the effort. Red Duck ales are just such animals, hand crafted from all natural ingredients, produced in our own micro-brewery in small batches.
We are located in part of the old dairy, stables and coach house, which were originally constructed about 1870, part of the magnificent Purrumbete Homestead property. Our micro-brewery is just a quack and waddle from Lake Purrumbete. The crystal clear waters are home to salmon and trout, as well as being the home of a variety of water birds. Teals, musk ducks, grebes, cormorants, swamp hens and occasionally, Australian Shelducks, with their distinctive red chests. We thought that such a good looking fowl would be a good name for our beers, hence Red Duck.
The first settlers in the Western District discovered Lake Purrumbete in 1839 and decided to call it home. We are continuing that pioneering spirit, by brewing traditional hand crafted ales and exploring new styles of ales that are not common to Australia.
All Red Duck beers are made from natural ingredients; malt, fresh rain water, hops and select yeast. Our beers are unfiltered to keep the true flavours of real beer and we use no added preservatives. Our ales are naturally carbonated in the bottle. Red Duck beers are real ales, with rich, malt driven flavours.
The brewery is open by appointment only. Please ring or email to arrange a time.
